J.T. Russell & Sons is a family owned highway construction company that offers a variety of asphalt products and services including construction, recycling, trucking and more.

Construction

Since 1939, J T Russell & Sons, Inc has grown from working in the farming industry to a major heavy highway and civil construction company. Our personnel and equipment have evolved with the major advancements in the construction industry to include GPS assisted grading and asphalt paving, drone assisted 3D mapping, and real time tracking of inventories and deliveries.

Our crews install hundreds of miles of quality asphalt per year, with material that is produced at our very own facilities, where we can better manage supply.

Over the past 20 years, we have completed several projects for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) including the majority of widening to highway 24/27 from Charlotte to Albemarle, the Troy (Montgomery County) By-pass, and several roundabouts in Stanly and Union Counties.

Grading

We have provided grading services since 1936 to the Carolinas. We can bring your project from the initial clearing stage to the final asphalt paving stage. We have the equipment, personnel, and experience to complete your project on budget and on time.

Using current technology such as GPS and real-time tracking, our crews are able to complete the work effectively and efficiently.

Utilities

We provide the following services: Sewer line, water line & pump stations.

Asphalt Paving & Milling

As one of the premier hot-mix asphalt paving companies in the Charlotte area, J. T. Russell and Sons, Inc. is renowned for our ability to provide quality pavement on projects ranging from bike paths to multi-lane highways and airport runways. In our design laboratory, we have the ability to provide conventional asphalt mixes as well as most technical applications which address properties such as skid resistance, noise levels, and high durability.

There is no such thing as a routine paving project. Our experienced team of laborers, operators, mechanics, estimators and managers treat each project individually and strive to provide the best quality product possible. Our asphalt facilities are located in Conover, Charlotte, New London, Salisbury, and Lexington North Carolina and are capable of producing a variety of asphalt mixes.

Along with our paving operators, we offer support services such as milling, widening, shoulder reconstruction, etc. We strive to provide the highest quality product that is both durable and sustainable for years to come.

Recycling

In 1966 JTR made a move to become practical and environmentally friendly. We recycle previously used materials such as asphalt, concrete, rock and brick. We provide our customers with numerous recycled products such as gravel rock, rip rap, brick chips, crushed concrete, screenings and topsoil.

For larger projects JTR has the capability of providing on-site recycling, which makes cost more effective for the market.

Trucking

With a modest start of a few vehicles over 50 years ago we now have Over 65 trucks that can haul aggregates as well as liquid asphalt. We believe in quality vehicles, quality service, and quality employees.

Hot Mix Asphalt

At each of our locations we are able to produce base, intermediate, or surface. JTR mixes are designed for NCDOT projects, airport projects, and various commercial and residential applications.

We supply NCDOT qualified mixes from all of our HMA plants located in Conover, Charlotte, and New London, each with full Quality Control (QC) labs on site.

JTR provides the highest quality HMA mixes by:

Thorough training and QC personnel
Daily QC testing of plant mix samples and roadway densities
